I was scheduled to visit another well-curated space, though, so I grabbed an Uber and headed over to Larimer Square (another place I want to go back to) to get a sneak peek of a brand new indie bookstore that had a soft opening on April 1 (no joke!) and will be holding its official grand opening celebration on April 25. It’s called Little Blue Pigeon and my advice is don’t wait till then. GO NOW!

The name, Little Blue Pigeon, was inspired by Japanese Lullabye, a poem by Eugene Fields and it sets the tone for this beautiful, welcoming space that is likely to become a haven not just for book lovers but for the community. In fulfilling her lifelong dream to own a bookstore, Paige (of course her name is Paige!) Duncan is primed to help others fulfill theirs: her Book Forward program is committed to donating books to local organizations every month, her events are geared toward helping support local businesses, her book offerings are thoughtfully selected to open readers to whole new worlds and to create a new generation of readers.

Mark my words, Little Blue Pigeon is going to become a beloved Denver institution and, if you live locally, you’ll want to spend all your free time there. I’ve been proudly wearing the cozy, blue Book Club sweatshirt I got there and sending people to check out the store every time someone compliments me on it – which is often.

I’m sad I live so far from Little Blue Pigeon because, to me, there’s nothing like a good bookstore and, although Little Blue Pigeon is definitely that, it’s so much more.

After hugging Paige goodbye as though we were longtime friends – trust me, you will feel the same way after one conversation – I met up with my husband and we headed over to Linger for dinner with our actual longtime friends.
