Little Blue Pigeon Books is honored to host the launch celebration for When They Came Home, the stunning debut novella by Terri Lewis and winner of the Miami University Press 2025 Novella Award. Based on the true story of Lewis's grandparents, Milton and Edith, this intimate and deeply affecting book opens in Kansas in 1919 — where Edith, longing for a life and family of her own, meets Milton, a soldier newly returned from the trenches of World War I. They court, they marry, they build something together.
But the war has followed Milton home in ways no one can see, and slowly, quietly, it begins to take him somewhere Edith cannot reach.
